The Sufferfest ACE Lesotho Mountain Bike MTB Team News
Developing young athletes is at the very heart of our team philosophy. Our elite riders bring us the headlines and the experience, but it will be our young riders that will push the limits for the future.
In or team of seven, five of the riders are under 21 years and with the big boys away for Glasgow Commonwealth Games, it was their chance to shine recently.
Our junior riders 18 year-old Malefetsane Lesofe and 17 year-old Katleho Manasi were selected to represent Lesotho at the African Youth Games in Gaborone Botswana in May. They both performed very well, with Malefetsane competing in his less favoured road race.
Malefetsane has also been selected for the Youth Olympic Games to be hosted in Nanjing, China soon. That’s a big experience for a young rider from rural Lesotho, who until joining the team had never travelled.
We also have a rider who is based in Wales, United Kingdom for studies. 19-year-old Lichaba West concentrated on his studies for the first half of 2014, but now that he has written his final examinations in June, he is ready to spend a year out to focus on his riding.
In 2013, Tseko Shelile was the youngest rider to compete the gruelling Lesotho Sky 6 day stage race. This year, the 20 year-old has qualified as one of the sponsored riders for the race again. He is also the 4th highest ranked Lesotho rider in the UCI Elite rankings with 96 points, despite riding an old Giant 26” bike.
