The Sufferfest Renews Title Sponsorship
We are very pleased and proud to announce that The Sufferfest will continue as our title sponsor. The team will register with the International Cycling Union (UCI) for the 2018 season with the same name – The Sufferfest African Dream Team. This will be the fifth season as a UCI MTB Team and we are very proud to be Africa’s first and most consistent UCI registered Mountain Bike Team.
Our partnership with The Sufferfest started in 2013, when Lesotho planned to create a team for the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. Their logo was spotted on the UCI website as an official sponsor and we took a chance and dropped them an email. David McQuillen, The Sufferfest Founder and Chief Suffering Officer, responded and so this great partnership was ignited.
We call our sponsors and supporters #DreamMakers – because that is precisely what the funds help us do. All our riders come from very humble circumstances and could not have made it to where they are today without the help of The Sufferfest and their supportive community. Their worldwide community are affectionately called Sufferlandrians and like to boast about the pain, agony and suffering that they go through in training with The Sufferfest workouts. However, this belies their warm-hearted and generous spirits that are always quick to support whenever we are in need of help.
Next season already promises to be a special one, boosted by the fantastic news that two of our riders, Bakang (Botswana) and Tumelo (Lesotho), have been awarded Tokyo 2020 Olympic Scholarships for Athletes and will be training at the World Cycling Centre in Switzerland. Another dream coming true for these young riders.
2018 will also present some of our riders a chance to shine at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in Australia and marks the commencement of the Tokyo 2020 qualification process. Our goal is to stay inside the top 30 ranked teams in the world and with this boost from The Sufferfest, we believe that we can achieve it.
The Sufferfest is a comprehensive training app that provides time-crunched endurance athletes with all of the tools needed to get faster, get stronger, and to achieve their personal athletic goals. The Sufferfest Training System includes a huge collection of structured workouts designed by elite coaches, a library of integrated training plans, a yoga for cyclists programme, a mental training programme, and ground-breaking workout personalisation with Four-Dimensional Power.
The Sufferfest African Dream Team is a UCI MTB Team with a difference. The purpose of the team is to identify cycling talent from the developing nations of Africa, particularly Lesotho, and give those riders an opportunity to cycle on the world’s biggest MTB stages. We have a proven record of seeing young riders aspiring to big dreams, developing self-confidence and rising above the poverty and hopelessness that they were born into.
