We were so proud to have our team captain, Phetetso Monese, lining up on the start line of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games MTB race alongside the cream of the world’s mountain bike racers testtest.
Unfortunately, the race did not materialise as we had planned and Phetetso was forced to drop out early after a broken chain. The mechanical happened on the start loop before lap 1, and as there was no Tech Zone on the start loop, Phetesto was faced with the prospect of running 2km with his bike in order to get some assistance. It was a futile exercise and the race officials advised him to drop out.
It was a devastating moment for Phetetso after all the hard work, but no-one can take away from him the face that he is an Olympian.
Unperturbed by the upset, Phetetso has already set his sights on Tokyo 2020 and has been on fire since returning from Rio, picking up wins and podiums left-right-and centre.
We are very proud of Phetetso, and honoured to have an Olympian on our team. Thank you to all our fans and sponsors who contributed so much to make Phetetso’s Olympic dream come true – you really are #DreamMakers.
